Diesel bemarit palaa?

EGRkö nuo polttaa?

Kymmeniä autoja palanut poroksi tänä vuonna – BMW pyysi anteeksi ja ilmoitti takaisinkutsusta
https://www.mtv.fi/lifestyle/autot/a...226#gs.gvLwUN8

Onkohan kyse tuosta samasta kikkareesta kuin N57:ssa?

edit. taitaa egr-cooleri pettää... ja sitten palaa imusarja?

BMW said it found the cause of the engine fires was leaks in their exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) coolers. That caused fires when vehicles were driven at high speeds for long periods of time. The company denied speculation that faulty software programs may be behind the fires.

EGR bypass venttiili jumii auki, joten EGR:n pakokaasut virtaavat EGR-jäähdyttimen ohi sellaisenaan imusarjaan.

Quote:
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on Thursday the recall will cover a total of 106,317 vehicles, including 35,115 units of the 520d model, 14,108 units of the 320d, and 12,377 units of the 520d xDrive manufactured between March 2011 and November 2016. It will also include models from the 4 series, 6 series, 7 series as well as from its SUV lineup including the X3, X5, and X6.

BMW Korea plans to perform a safety inspection on all affected vehicles from July 27 and start the recall on Aug. 20.

The fire appears to have been caused by a faulty exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) module, a system that recirculates a portion of the exhaust gas back to the engine cylinders to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. Experts suspect the hot exhaust gases went back into the engine without being properly cooled, causing a hole in the intake manifold which led to a fire in the engine cover.

For vehicles that caught on fire due to EGR defects, the company will compensate owners the cash equivalent of the model’s market value in the used car market, regardless of whether the car was serviced at private repair centers. If the fire was caused by other factors, only those owners that used official service centers will be eligible for reimbursement.

Owners of tuned vehicles and those that have already received compensation through their insurance company would also be excluded, according to BMW Korea.

“We will fully cooperate with authorities and take all necessary measures to regain customer trust,” said a BMW Korea official.

During the press conference, BMW Group Vice President for Quality Johann Ebenbichler said coolant leakage in the cooler in the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) module in the engine was the root cause of the fires.

According to Ebenbichler, oily ingredients in the coolant create sediment in the EGR pipe, which causes a spark to start a fire.

"As we found a leaky cooler was the root cause of the fires, we will begin replacing the EGR cooler and cleaning the EGR pipe during the recall," Kim said, adding more than 6,000 BMW Korea employees and dealers will do their utmost to dispel customer concerns.

Despite Kim and BMW Group's apology, the German automaker stressed that the problem was "not Korea specific," with Ebenbichler saying EGR systems in all BMW diesel vehicles were "the same."

Ebenbichler said "the overall failure rate related with EGR issue is 0.1 percent of the total diesel volume in a year in Korea and similar rates were observed in other jurisdictions." However, the company did not explain why EGR-related fires were concentrated in recent months.

To the question that why the company took time before announcing the recall, Ebenbichler said: "The company became aware of the EGR problems in 2016 but only identified the root cause in June this year."

Ainakin otsikoiden perusteella...

Seoul, Aug 6 (IANS) The BMW Group on Monday officially apologized for the fires that consumed some of its vehicles and stressed that the hardware issue cited for the problem is not specific to South Korea. The statement came as the German luxury carmaker held an "urgent" press conference in Seoul to explain the fires in its vehicles while outlining the company's recall plans here. "The cause is only a hardware issue. It has nothing to do with software. And the root cause is not Korea specific. Similar rates are observed in other jurisdictions," Vice President Johann Ebenbichler in charge of quality at BMW Group told the media, as reported by Yonhap. He cited the leakage of an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler as the main cause of the fire incidents that happened in the cars in Asia's fourth-biggest economy this year. The vice president said the latest fires are "specific problems with the EGR cooler" in BMW vehicles. BMW used the same software and hardware for its vehicles sold in Europe and Korea. The EGR-caused failure rate in diesel-powered BMW vehicles sold in Korea is 0.10 per cent, similar to 0.12 per cent in BMW diesel cars sold globally, the carmaker said, without giving a specific timeframe. However, the company didn't explain why EGR-related fires are concentrated in Korea this year. There have been 32 cases of fires in the engine compartments of BMW vehicles, mainly the 520d sedan, coming into 2018. BMW said it will recall 106,317 vehicles to make an emergency check on the EGR component at its 61 after-sales service centres. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said 10 per cent of BMW vehicles that underwent the emergency examination are at high risk of fire. The official recall is scheduled to start on August 20 to replace the EGR cooler and module and clean the EGR pipe. The EGR is one of the principal devices used to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engines. Meanwhile, two groups of Korean consumers filed a joint suit against BMW over the faulty part. More consumers are set to take legal action against the German company in the coming weeks. Last week, the transport ministry urged owners of BMWs not to drive their vehicles until safety issues are fully resolved. The ministry said it will as quickly as possible investigate what caused the fires in a thorough and transparent manner. It also vowed to review existing laws and regulations involving the recall system to prevent carmakers from taking advantage of loopholes that could jeopardize public safety.

No niin tai näin. Tilastoissa näyttää löytyvän kärjestä. Itsekin on saanut kyllä suosiolla pudottaa nuo bensamallit pois harkinnasta. Samoin pikku diiselit.

^Mielenkiintoista, todellakin.

BMW Korea hatte vor einigen Tagen den Rückruf angekündigt. Betroffen sind 42 Modelle, die zwischen März 2011 und November 2016 gebaut wurden und mit dem AGR-Modul ausgerüstet sind.

Koreassa takaisinkutsutut autot. Mikä näissä tekee eron esim e90 330d N57 koneiseen? Vai eikö ko. Mallia ole myyty tuolla? Vai onko egr yksikössä jotain eroa?

Sinällään tuttu tarina: "When the component malfunctions, the emissions reenter the pipe without being cooled and melt a hole in the engine. The heat that comes out of the hole could cause a fire, according to BMW’s own probe so far. "

Mutta onko näihin tarvinnut liittyä jäähdytinnesteen vuoto?
"BMW blames a coolant leak in the exhaust recirculation module in diesel engines for the spontaneous fires, but the ministry has yet to identify the exact cause.."

Markkina on melkoinen... ja tehtiinkö nyt vain se mitä oli pakko kun luottamus alko oleen nolla. Eikai nämä mitään uusia ongelmia ole vaan jo tiedossa olleita?
"Korea takes up 30 percent of worldwide sales of the 5 Series.

BMW said, "All BMW models sold here are equipped with the same EGR systems and components designed by Germany as those of BMWs sold around the world. No fires of the BMW models caused by faulty EGR systems have been reported elsewhere."
